1. Inhibition of Acetylcholinesterase by Coumarin-Linked Amino Acids Synthetized via Triazole Associated with Molecule Partition Coefficient
A previous study for the identification of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors demonstrated that the hybrid between tyrosol, the 1,2,3-triazole nucleus, and the coumarin group, namely 7-({1-[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl}methoxy)-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2-one (10), has a high enzyme inhibitory activity. Here, we synthesized analogues of 10 v

2. Synthesis of Spiro-Pyrrolidinyloxindoles by Oxidative Rearrangement of N-Acyltetrahydro-β-carbolines Using an Oxone/Aqueous Acetone Mixture
Spiro-pyrrolidinyl-2-oxindoles were prepared by the oxidative rearrangement of Na-acetyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carbolines (THBC) using dimethyldioxirane generated in situ. The Na-acetyl THBC substrates were obtained by Pictet-Spengler and acyl-Pictet-Spengler reactions of L-tryptophan methyl ester, followed by Na-acetylation. The stereoselectivity of the oxi

3. Identificação de alguns constituintes químicos de Indigofera hirsuta Linn. (Fabaceae) por CLAE-IES-EM (TOF) e avaliação da atividade antirradicalar
A rapid analytical approach, suitable to characterize the compounds present in the aqueous and methanol extracts prepared from the aerial parts of Indigofera hirsute, was developed. The method based on high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, electrospray positive ionization and detection by time of flight (HPLC-ESI-MS-TOF) identi

4. IDO controls the fungal loads and cellular immunity in pulmonary paracoccidiodomycosis developed by susceptible and resistant mice to the fungus. / A IDO controla a carga fúngica e a imunidade celular de camundongos suscetíveis e resistentes à infecção pelo Paracoccidioides brasiliensis.
Indoleamine-2, 3-dioxygenase (IDO) and tryptophan catabolism are involved in the control of innate and adaptive immunity against pathogens. We investigated the role of IDO in the pulmonary paracoccidiodomycosis developed by susceptible (B10.A) and resistant (A/J) mice to the fungus. We verified that IDO plays a different effect in innate the immunity of B10.

5. Indole ring oxidation by activated leukocytes prevents the production of hypochlorous acid
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) released by activated leukocytes has been implicated in the tissue damage that characterizes chronic inflammatory diseases. In this investigation, 14 indole derivatives, including metabolites such as melatonin, tryptophan and indole-3-acetic acid, were screened for their ability to inhibit the generation of this endogenous oxidant by

6. REGULATION OF EARLY REACTIONS IN THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF TRYPTOPHAN IN NEUROSPORA CRASSA
Lester, Gabriel (Reed College, Portland, Ore.). Regulation of early reactions in the biosynthesis of tryptophan in Neurospora crassa. J. Bacteriol. 85:468–475. 1963.—The regulation of the biosynthesis of tryptophan was examined in Neurospora crassa, strain ylo-tryp-la, which accumulates anthranil compounds. The block in this strain appeared to be in the

7. Regulation of Enzymes Involved in the Conversion of Tryptophan to Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide in a Colorless Strain of Xanthomonas pruni1
A colorless strain of Xanthomonas pruni was isolated which is capable of converting tryptophan to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). The enzymes responsible for the conversion of tryptophan to quinolinic acid were shown to be present. Nicotinic acid-requiring mutants were isolated, and it was found that the growth of these mutants can be supported by v

8. Production of Substituted l-Tryptophans by Fermentation 1
Claviceps purpurea has been shown to produce extracellular l-tryptophan from indole in stirred fermentors. The substrate specificity of this conversion was investigated by using substituted indoles, anthranilic acid, and 4-chloro-anthranilic acid. Addition of 2-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-methyl indole or 6-chloroindole to C. purpurea C1M produced the corresponding

9. Regulation of Tryptophan Biosynthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: Mode of Action of 5-Methyl-Tryptophan and 5-Methyl-Tryptophan-Sensitive Mutants
In a wild-type strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae the tryptophan analogue dl-5-methyl-tryptophan (5MT) causes only a slight reduction of the growth rate. Uptake experiments indicate that the limited inhibition is partly due to low levels of 5MT inside the cell. On the other hand, this low concentration of 5MT leads to an increase in the activity of the trypt

12. Regulation of Staphylococcal Penicillinase Synthesis
5-Methyl tryptophan was found to be an efficient inducer of penicillinase synthesis in Staphylococcus aureus. Addition of actinomycin D or tryptophan to the culture medium shuts off the 5-methyl tryptophan-induced synthesis of penicillinase with an apparent half-life of approximately 1 to 2 min, respectively. Hence, in the induction of penicillinase synthesi
