3. Molecular characterization of a phytoplasma associated with a commercial variety of Momordica charantia
ABSTRACT: Momordica charantia (bitter melon) presents two distinct types or varieties, known as wild type and commercial type. Plants of the wild type are hosts of a phytoplasma of the group 16SrIII-J, which is associated with a disease known as witches’ broom. However, this disease has not yet been reported in commercial bitter melon. Thus, symptomatic pl

4. Ehrlichia spp. infection in domestic cats from Rio de Janeiro State, southeast Brazil

5. Molecular epidemiology of 16S rRNA methyltransferase in Brazil: RmtG in Klebsiella aerogenes ST93 (CC4)
Abstract Aminoglycosides are a class of antibiotics that play a key role in antimicrobial treatment of Multidrug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacilli, typically in combination with β-lactams. Ribosomal 16S RNA modification by methyltransferases (e.g. RmtG) is an aminoglycoside resistance mechanism that, along with the occurrence carbapenem-resistant Entero

6. Characterisation of plasmid-mediated rmtB-1 in Enterobacteriaceae clinical isolates from São Paulo, Brazil
OBJECTIVES The emergence of 16S rRNA methyltranferases (16 RMTAses) has jeopardised the clinical use of aminoglycosides. RmtB is one of the most frequently reported in Gram-negatives worldwide. In this study, we aimed to estimate the frequency of 16S RMTAses encoding genes in Enterobacteriaceae isolated in a three-month period from a tertiary Brazilian hospi

7. Isolation, Characterization and Symbiotic Efficiency of Nitrogen-Fixing and Heavy Metal-Tolerant Bacteria from a Coalmine Wasteland
ABSTRACT: Areas affected by coal mining can be recovered by revegetation with leguminous plants associated with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. This study addressed the isolation and characterization of native nitrogen-fixing bacteria from coalmine wasteland under different vegetation restoration approaches using Macroptilium atropurpureum (DC) Urb and Vicia sativ

8. Phenotypic, genetic and symbiotic characterization of Erythrina velutina rhizobia from Caatinga dry forest
Abstract Erythrina velutina ("mulungu") is a legume tree from Caatinga that associates with rhizobia but the diversity and symbiotic ability of "mulungu" rhizobia are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to characterize "mulungu" rhizobia from Caatinga. Bacteria were obteined from Serra Talhada and Caruaru in Caatinga under natural regeneration. The

9. Antagonistic endophytic bacteria associated with nodules of soybean (Glycine max L.) and plant growth-promoting properties
Abstract A total of 276 endophytic bacteria were isolated from the root nodules of soybean (Glycine max L.) grown in 14 sites in Henan Province, China. The inhibitory activity of these bacteria against pathogenic fungus Phytophthora sojae 01 was screened in vitro. Six strains with more than 63% inhibitory activities were further characterized through optical

10. Tripartite symbiosis of Sophora tomentosa, rhizobia and arbuscular mycorhizal fungi
ABSTRACT Sophora tomentosa is a pantropical legume species with potential for recovery of areas degraded by salinization, and for stabilization of sand dunes. However, few studies on this species have been carried out, and none regarding its symbiotic relationship with beneficial soil microorganisms. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the diversity of n

11. Diversity of the Potential 2-Methylisoborneol-Producing Genotypes in Thai Strains of Planktothricoides (Cyanobacteria)
ABSTRACT The genus Planktothricoides Suda & Watanabe is considered as a 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) producer, affecting water quality and aquatic animal products worldwide. To date, there is limited information about the diversity of this genus from Thailand. In this study, Thai Planktothricoides strains were isolated from fish ponds and reservoirs in North, No

12. Molecular characterization of ureaplasmas isolated from reproductive tract of goats and sheep from Brazil
Abstract Ovine/caprine ureaplasmas have not yet been assigned a species designation, but they have been classified into nine serotypes. Herein ureaplasmas were searched for in 120 samples of vulvo vaginal mucous from sheep and 98 samples from goats at 17 farms. In addition, semen samples were collected from 11 sheep and 23 goats. The recovered ureaplasma wer
