1. Growth, Yield and Grain Nutritional Quality in Three Brazilian Pearl Millets (Pennisetum americanum L.) with African or Indian origins
ABSTRACT In this study, we are presenting recommendations to the best agricultural use as well as for plant breeding of three millet cultivars namely ENA1 and ENA2, which have African origin, and BRS1501 originally from India. These cultivars were evaluated for growth, yield and grain quality traits. The morphological traits evaluated in this study indicated

2. Anti-nutritional factors and digestibility of protein in Cayocar brasiliense seeds
Abstract The Brazilian Cerrado presents a wide variety of natural products, including the Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense). The important factor that determines the dietary and nutritional ideality of protein is degestitibility. This work aims to evaluate the protein digestibility of Pequi seeds and the presence of anti-nutritional factors. The protein Pequi alm

4. ProteÃnas de sementes de Amburana cearensis (Allemao) A. C. Smith: Valor nutricional e bioatividade contra patÃgenos e vetores de doenÃas / Proteins of Amburana cearensis (Allemao) A. C. Smith: nutritional value and bioactivity against pathogens and vector-borne diseases

5. Identificação e caracterização parcial de albuminas e globulinas de tres cultivares brasileiros de Phascolus vulgaris
Seeds of Phaseolus vulgaris cv. Aeté-3, Coiano precoce and Carioca were analysed in different aspects: contents of the different protein fractions of albumins and globulins, electrophoretic banding patterns, amino acid composition, evaluation of the range of precipitaiton of major vicilins, and their nutritional values. The degree of glycosilation, carboydr

6. Synergistic Enhancement of the Antifungal Activity of Wheat and Barley Thionins by Radish and Oilseed Rape 2S Albumins and by Barley Trypsin Inhibitors.
Although thionins and 2S albumins are generally considered as storage proteins, both classes of seed proteins are known to inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi. We have now found that the wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) or barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) thionin concentration required for 50% inhibition of fungal growth is lowered 2- to 73-fold when combined with

7. Determination of the Processing Sites of an Arabidopsis 2S Albumin and Characterization of the Complete Gene Family
The most abundant isoform of the 2S albumin present in seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana has been sequenced and the corresponding gene isolated. Examination of the protein and DNA sequences allows the determination of the exact proteolytic cleavage sites during posttranslational processing. Like other 2S albumins, that of Arabidopsis is made as a prepropeptide.

8. Thioredoxin-linked mitigation of allergic responses to wheat
Thioredoxin, a ubiquitous 12-kDa regulatory disulfide protein, was found to reduce disulfide bonds of allergens (convert S—S to 2 SH) and thereby mitigate the allergenicity of commercial wheat preparations. Allergenic strength was determined by skin tests with a canine model for food allergy. Statistically significant mitigation was observed with 15 o

9. Albumin synthesis in mouse uterus in response to liver mRNA.
Messenger RNA was isolated, by means of its attachment to poly(A), from calf liver and the livers of mice, rats, and chickens. When injected into the uterine lumen of immature or spayed mice, both mouse albumin and the albumins characteristic of the species donating the mRNA were synthesized. Studies with inhibitors disclosed that puromycin blocked the synth

10. Short-term measurement of catabolic rates using iodine-labeled plasma proteins
Fractional catabolic rates of iodine-labeled plasma albumins and fibrinogens have been measured in experiments of a few hours duration in adult rabbits. The method used which is based on release of labeled iodide from the protein gives accurate estimates of catabolic rates (expressed as fractions of the plasma protein pool catabolized per day) after 36 hr wi

11. M12 protein from Streptococcus pyogenes is a receptor for immunoglobulin G3 and human albumin.
We previously showed that M12 protein from opacity factor-negative Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococci) CS24 is responsible for immunoglobulin G3 (IgG3) binding activity. Here, we report that this M protein binds human serum albumin (HSA). Deletion analysis showed that the C repeats are sufficient for binding HSA, although upstream regions may be re

12. Pathogenic Species of the Genus Haemophilus and Streptococcus pneumoniae Produce Immunoglobulin A1 Protease
Thirty-seven strains of the genus Haemophilus and five strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae were examined for their ability to produce extracellular enzyme that cleaves immunoglobulin molecules. All strains of H. influenzae, H. aegyptius, and S. pneumoniae elaborated enzyme that selectively cleaved human immunoglobulin A1 (IgA1) myeloma proteins but was inact
