1. Efeito do tratamento com benazepril e carvedilol administrado de forma isolada e em associação com treinamento físico supervisionado sobre a evolução clínica de cães com insuficiência mitral crônica naturalmente adquirida / Effect of benazepril and carvedilol treatment alone and in association with a supervised physical training in the development of naturally acquired chronic mitral valve regurgitation in dogs
INTRODUCTION: Sympathetic activation is present in patients having chronic mitral valve regurgitation even in asymptomatic ones. However, the effect of beta- blockers and a physical training program to modulate this sympathetic activation during this valve disease is unknown. The objective of this study has been to evaluate the effect of carvedilol and a phy

2. Efeito da terapia com Beta-bloqueadores em camundongos com deleção dos receptores alpha 2A/alpha 2C adrenérgicos / Effects of b- adrenergic antagonist therapy in mice lacking a 2A/a 2C adrenergic receptors
We have recently reported that disruption for both a2A ?and a2C adrenergic receptor subtypes in mice (KO) leads to sympathetic hyperactivity with evidence of heart failure (HF) by the age of 7 months. These mice provide a model system for evaluating the efficiency among different ?- adrenergic antagonists (BB) for HF therapy. In the present study, we evaluat

3. Beta 2-adrenergic mechanisms in experimental arthritis.
We have studied (i) the contribution of specific adrenergic receptors to the proinflammatory effects of the sympathetic nervous system in experimental arthritis and (ii) the phases of the disease during which the sympathetic nervous system influences joint injury. Severity of joint injury was measured radiographically 28 days after induction of adjuvant arth

4. Pharmacodynamic Studies of Beta Adrenergic Antagonism Induced in Man by Propranolol and Practolol
The pharmacodynamic activities of two beta adrenergic antagonists, propranolol and practolol, were compared in eight hypertensive patients. The activity of each antagonist was established in relation to its blood concentration at maximal and submaximal adrenergic blockade defined by inhibition of exercise tachycardia. Maximal inhibition of exercise tachycard

5. Adrenergic regulation of the skeletal alpha-actin gene promoter during myocardial cell hypertrophy.
The skeletal alpha-actin gene is expressed in fetal rat heart and is induced during norepinephrine (NE)-stimulated hypertrophy in cultures of neonatal rat cardiac myocytes. Here we report that NE positively regulates the human skeletal alpha-actin gene promoter in transiently transfected neonatal rat cardiac myocytes. NE increased expression from the full-le

6. Reconstitution of catecholamine-sensitive adenylate cyclase activity: interactions of solubilized components with receptor-replete membranes.
Membranes of mouse L cells that contain adenylate cyclase [ATP pyrophosphate-lyase (cyclizing), EC 4.6.1.1] but lack beta-adrenergic receptors have been solubilized with Lubrol 12A9. Addition of such adenylate cyclase-containing extracts to beta-adrenergic receptor-replete membranes from adenylate cyclase-deficient S49 lymphoma cells results in the productio

7. Agonist-promoted coupling of the beta-adrenergic receptor with the guanine nucleotide regulatory protein of the adenylate cyclase system.
Binding of the beta-adrenergic agonist [3H]hydroxybenzylisoproterenol to the beta-adrenergic receptor of rat reticulocyte membranes results in the coupling of the receptor to the guanine nucleotide regulatory protein associated with the adenylate cyclase system. This regulatory component, referred to as the G-protein, was identified by its specific [32P]-ADP

8. Human beta 2-adrenergic receptors expressed in Escherichia coli membranes retain their pharmacological properties.
The coding region of the gene for the human beta 2-adrenergic receptor gene was fused to the beta-galactosidase gene of the lambda gt11 expression vector. The Y1089 Escherichia coli strain was lysogenized with this modified vector and transcription of the fusion gene was induced. Expression of this transcription unit was shown by the appearance in the bacter

9. Adrenergic Modulation of Pancreatic Glucagon Secretion in Man
In order to characterize the influence of the adrenergic system on pancreatic glucagon secretion in man, changes in basal glucagon secretion during infusions of pure alpha and beta adrenergic agonists and their specific antagonists were studied. During infusion of isoproterenol (3 μg/min), a beta adrenergic agonist, plasma glucagon rose from a mean (±SE) b

10. Trapping of the beta-adrenergic receptor in the hormone-induced state.
Isoproterenol and other agonists readily dissociate from the beta-adrenergic receptor in turkey erythrocyte membranes. However, when a low concentration of deoxycholate is added, the receptor locks the prebound agonist; i.e., the rate of dissociation of the prebound agonist decreases drastically. The dissociation of prebound antagonists is slightly increased

11. Neural regulation on the active sodium-potassium transport in hypokalaemic rat skeletal muscles.
C.N.S.-induced suppression of muscle Na-pump activity was studied in fast 'twitch' muscle, extensor digitorum longus, of hypokalaemic rats which were fed a K-deficient diet for 0-9 weeks. The results were compared with those of slow 'tonic' muscle, soleus, reported previously. K-deficient diet caused blood hypokalaemia and a considerable K+ loss and Na+ accu

12. Direct contact between sympathetic neurons and rat cardiac myocytes in vitro increases expression of functional calcium channels.
To test the hypothesis that direct contact between sympathetic neurons and myocytes regulates expression and function of cardiac Ca channels, we prepared cultures of neonatal rat ventricular myocytes with and without sympathetic ganglia. Contractile properties of myocytes were assessed by an optical-video system. Contractility-pCa curves showed a 60% greater
