1. Cellular proliferation markers in peripheral and central fibromas: a comparative study
Objective: To perform a comparative study of the cellular proliferation in the peripheral and central fibromas. Material and Methods: Immunohistochemistry for PCNA and the AgNOR technique were performed in 9 cases of peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POF), in 4 cases of odontogenic fibroma (OdF), in 8 cases of peripheral ossifying fibroma (PEOF) and 7 cases

2. Proliferação celular de estruturas ovarianas de ovelhas pela técnica de coloração AgNOR / Proliferation of ovarian cell structures of ewes by the technique of AgNOR staining

3. Histologic grading and nucleolar organizer regions in oral squamous cell carcinomas
OBJECTIVE: The purposes of this study were to histologically assess different types of oral squamous cell carcinoma and the silver-binding nucleolar organizer region (AgNOR) morphology in neoplastic cells, as well as to quantify the number of AgNORs in each type of carcinoma in order to relate AgNOR count and histologic grading. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-

4. Leucoplasias bucais: estudo comparativo entre o grau histológico de displasia, imunoexpressão de hMLH1 e p53 e análise quantitativa de AgNOR
hMLH1 is a protein of the mammalian mismatch repair system (MMR), which maintains genomic stability during repeated duplication. Investigations point to a role of hMLH1 in oral carcinogenesis, and its expression pattern may be related to epigenetic events and microsatellite instability in oral leukoplakias and squamous cell carcinomas. It seems that those al

5. Estudo citogenetico de Pseudopaludicola canga, P. mineira e P. saltica e de cinco populações de Pseudopaludicola sp. (Anura, Leiuperidae) / Cytogenetic study of Pseudopaludicola canga, P. mineira and P. saltica and five populations of Pseudopaludicola sp. (Anura, Leiuperidae)
The genus Pseudopaludicola, of the family Leiuperidae, comprises 12 frog species and is widely distributed in South America. In Brazil, nine species have been described within this genus. As based on morphological data, the Pseudopaludicola species were classified in two groups named "pusilla" and "falcipes". Although this genus has undergone several taxonom

6. MORPHOLOGY AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY OF ALIMENTARY SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA ASSOCIATED WITH Pteridium aquilinum IN CATTLE / MORFOLOGIA E IMUNOISTOQUÍMICA DOS CARCINOMAS DE CÉLULAS ESCAMOSAS ALIMENTARES ASSOCIADOS AO CONSUMO DE Pteridium aquilinum EM BOVINOS
To determine the main factors influencing the biological behavior of 40 squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the upper digestive tract (UDT) of cattle associated with spontaneous ingestion of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum), morphological, including cell proliferation, and immunohistochemical aspects were studied. The aspects analyzed included anatomical loc

7. Marcadores de proliferação celular na avaliação do crescimento do tumor sólido e ascítico de Ehrlich
Twenty BALB/c mice were inoculated with cell suspension of Ehrlich tumor. Ten mice were inoculated in the cushion plant (solid form) and the other 10 in the peritoneum (ascitic form). Animals were euthanized on different times (7 and 14 days). Cytological and histological slides, immunohistochemical (PCNA) analysis and NORs silver impregnation technique were

8. A Origem das Células de Defesa (hemócitos) em Biomphalaria glabrata (Say, 1818). / The origin of the cells of defense (hemocytes) in Biomphalaria glabrata.
The defensive reactions against micro-organisms in snails of the genus Biomphalaria are performed by a single cell type the hemocyte or amebocyte. These cells, phagocytic and mobile, exist in the interior of the tissues and circulate in the hemolymph. Its site of origin is still uncertain. It is admitted that these cells in Biomphalaria glabrata originate in

9. Karyotype characterization, constitutive heterochromatin and nucleolus organizer regions of Paranaita opima (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Alticinae)
Species of the subtribe Oedionychina not only have a highly uniform diploid number of 2n = 22 (20+X+y) but have the karyotypic peculiarity of possessing extremely large sex chromosomes. We analyzed Paranaita opima embryos and gonadal cells to determine their diploid number, chromosomal morphology, type of sex determination system, constitutive heterochromati

10. Citogenetica comparativa de especies de aplastodiscus e do grupo de Hyla albomarginata (Hylidae, Anura) / Comparative cytogenetics of aplastodiscus species and Hyla albomarginata group (Hylidae, Anura)
The Hylidae family includes four subfamilies, with Hylinae comprising 27 genera. The Hyla genus has many species divided into related groups. The Hyla albomarginata group, as known as "green Hylas" is subdivided into 3 complexes: "albomarginata","albosignata" and "albofrenata". The Aplastodiscus genus has been the object oftaxonomic discussion since its desc

11. Chromosomal characterization of Pseudonannolene strinatii (Spirostreptida, Pseudonannolenidae)
The chromosomes of the cave millipede Pseudonannolene strinatii Mauriès, 1974 were investigated. The diploid chromosome number was found to be 2n=16, XX/XY; the C-banding technique revealed a large amount of heterochromatin while the silver staining technique (Ag-NOR) evidenced the presence of heteromorphism of the NORs in some cells.

12. Double staining p53/AgNOR in oral squamous cell carcinoma / Dupla marcação p53/AgNOR em carcinoma epidermóide oral
The utilization of the immunohistochemical/histochemical double staining technique comes permitting the analysis of two molecular parameters at the same time in an even tissue. Starting from this, the objective of this study was to investigate the existence of differences between the number of NORS/NUCLEUS between p53 positive and p53 negative cells, as well
