1. AGRONOMICAL ATTRIBUTES OF SOYBEANS AND SOIL RESISTANCE TO PENETRATION IN NO-TILLAGE AND CHISELED SURFACES
ABSTRACT Farming systems may affect soil properties and crop production of components, decreasing yields. This study aimed to assess penetration resistance (PR) and agronomic traits of soybeans under no-tillage (NT) and chiseling (CP). The experiment was carried out in a randomized block with two treatments (tillage and scarification) with 12 repetitions; ye

2. Genome selection in fruit breeding: application to table grapes
ABSTRACT Genomic selection (GS) has recently been proposed as a new selection strategy which represents an innovative paradigm in crop improvement, now widely adopted in animal breeding. Genomic selection relies on phenotyping and high-density genotyping of a sufficiently large and representative sample of the target breeding population, so that the majority

3. URS Brava - a new oat cultivar with partial resistance to crown rust
The cultivar URS Brava, obtained from a simple cross between the line 'UFRGS 995078-2' and the cultivar 'URS 21', shows high grain yield and stability, high grain quality, desirable agronomical traits and partial resistance to crown rust, caused by the fungus Puccinia coronataf. sp. avenae.

4. Genetic divergence among accessions of Axonopus jesuiticus x A. scoparius based on morphological and agronomical traits

5. Soybean genetic transformation: a valuable tool for the functional study of genes and the production of agronomically improved plants
Transgenic plants represent an invaluable tool for molecular, genetic, biochemical and physiological studies by gene overexpression or silencing, transposon-based mutagenesis, protein sub-cellular localization and/or promoter characterization as well as a breakthrough for breeding programs, allowing the production of novel and genetically diverse genotypes.

6. Investigação da microbiota endofítica onipresente em microplantas "axênicas / Investigation of ubiquitous endophytic microbiota in "axenic" microplants.
Tissue culture has been an important tool widely used for various purposes, among them the micropropagation has been highlighted due to the rapid production of healthy seedlings in a small space. Within this context, the term axenic plant has been distributed as an ideal to be achieved in this technique, which the search based on numerous methods that effect

7. Qualidade fisiolÃgica de sementes de soja convencional e RR associada ao conteÃdo de lignina / Physiological quality of conventional and RR soybean seeds associated with lignin content
In the latest crops, a strong and growing adherence of Brazilian farmers to RR transgenic soybean was found. Nevertheless, the hypothesis has been raised that these soybean cultivars are presenting differential hypotheses concerning the lignin contents in the plant, when compared with conventional cultivars. Such a variation could be occurring not only in th

8. Determinação da variabilidade genética nas populações de seleção recorrente de arroz CNA-IRAT 4 e CNA 12 utilizando marcadores microssatélites / Determination of the genetic variability in rice populations of recurrent selection CNA-IRAT 4 and CNA 12 using microssatellites markers
Recurrent Selection is a population inbreed method that is not traditionally used in autogamous species as rice. However, it is still an interesting methodology to the implementation of recurrent selection populations, due to the possibility of obtaining genotypes with wide genetic base and adequate agronomical traits. It is even more attractive when a great

10. Caracterização morfoagronômica de acessos de arroz (Oryza sativa L.) de terras altas.
Rice is the primary food source in many developing countries in the world, primarily for those located in Asian. The Oryza genus has 24 species, but only two are cultivated: O. glaberrima Steud. in the West of Africa and O. sativa L. in all part of the world. Those species are naturally hydrophytes, however the evolutionary process they become adapted for ma

11. Physiological characterization of drought tolerance in Coffea canephora: relative contribution of root system and shoot / Caracterização fisiológica da tolerância à seca em Coffea canephora: contribuição relativa do sistema radicular e da parte aérea
With the intent to evaluate the relative contribution of the root system in Coffea canephora to drought stress tolerance, was performed reciprocal grafting experiments between genotypes with contrasting tolerance traits (clone 109, sensible, and clone 120, tolerant). The plants used in these experiments were control plants 109 and 120, and grafted plants 120

12. Estratégias para seleção de linhagens experimentais de soja para tolerância à ferrugem e associações com outras doenças / Strategies for selection of soybean lines to rust tolerance and associations with other diseases
Soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi Sydow and Sydow) was first recorded in Brazil during the 2000/01 season and, even today, represents an important challenge to soybean breeding. The cultivars and lines initially identified as resistant had their resistance breakdown on the 2002/03 season, probably by the occurrence of new races of the pathogen. Consequentl
