1. Effects of Heat Treatment on the Relative Amounts of Cellulose in Nanosilver-Impregnated and Untreated Poplar Wood (Populus alba)
ABSTRACT The present study investigated the effect of heat treatment on the relative amount of cellulose in untreated and nanosilver-impregnated poplar wood (Populus alba). The impacts on physical and mechanical properties were further studied. Specimens were heated at 145°C and 165°C in hot air medium. In order to enhance heat transfer to the inner parts

2. Different resistance patterns of reference and field strains of Brucella abortus
The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth of the B. abortus reference strains and field isolates on media containing different inhibitor agents. Reference strains were seeded on tryptose agar containing: i-erythritol (1.0 mg/mL), fuchsin (20 μg/mL and 80 μg/mL), thionin (2.5 μg/mL and 10 μg/mL), rifampicin (200 μg/mL) and safranin O (200 μg/mL).

3. An experimental simulation model for coated paper drying
Due to the lack of information regarding the phenomena of mass, heat, and momentum transfer in coated paper drying, substantial research work still needs to be done. A simulation model for coated paper drying is introduced which integrates heat and mass transfer mechanisms. In the model, the coated paper was assumed to have 3 layers (coated layer, wet and dr

4. Fotoeletrodegradação do corante AO7 utilizando filmes de nanocompósitos de ZnO-TiO2
The Zn-TiO2nanocomposite films were prepared by electrodeposition, using an acidic zinc sulphate solution with TiO2 nanoparticles in suspension. The as-deposited samples have been heated in air at 450 ºC for 6 h. The XRD and SEM analyses pointed out to the metal matrix conversion from Zn to ZnO and a rich morphology of needles-shaped grains. These materials

5. Estudo do ruído de rodagem estrutural através da análise dos caminhos de transferência de energia - TPA / Structure-borne road noise study using transfer path analysis, TPA
The road noise, vibration and harshness (Road NVH) present from 20 Hz to 1000 Hz approximately, begins from the tires vibration and acoustic propagation and their interactions with the road surfaces. In these noise sources, both structural-borne and air-borne noise contributions are relevant to vehicle refinement. The constant efforts to study the vehicle as

6. Desenvolvimento de um sistema para detecção de dispersóides no ar
The amount of dust suspended in air can be harmful to human health if not complied with the limits previously established by the WHO (World Health Organisation). The air is polluted when it contains elements foreign to its natural composition: oxygen, nitrogen, noble gases and water vapor and even carbon dioxide. The most common forms of air pollution are ca

8. Material particulado fino presente no ar da cidade de São Paulo promove alterações nas células de Purkinje: um estudo experimental em embrião de galinha / Urban fine particles induce alterations in Purkinje cells: an experimental study in chick embryo
Air pollutants are associated to several diseases including those related to central nervous system. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of urban fine particles (PM2.5) in chicken embryo Purkinje cells. A single dose of PM2.5 suspension in two different concentrations (1.5 or 20.0 Pg.100Pl-1) was injected in fresh laid fertilized eggs on E0. Cont

9. Estimativa de um índice de estresse hídrico para a cultura da cana-de-açúcar com base na temperatura foliar / Estimating of crop water stress index to sugarcane based on the canopy temperature
The objective of this work was to evaluate the behavior of leaf temperature and transpiration of sugarcane under different matric and meteorological conditions to estimate a crop water stress index (IEHC), which can be applied in irrigation management and estimates of productivity. Because of the need to apply water stress to plants, the experiment was condu

10. Synthesis and properties of new paramagnetic hybrid bayerite from Al(0)/naphthalene dianhydride reaction
The reaction of Naphthalene 1,4,5,8-dianhydride (NTCDA) with elemental aluminum(0) powder is studied in an aqueous alcoholic KOH mixture to search for the NTCDA anion and dianion electron-adducts. After analyzing various reaction conditions it was found that the reaction yielded a greenish precipitate in 3:1 (v:v) ethanol:water mixture. This powder is compos

11. An effective device for generating alginate microcapsules
An alternative approach to somatic gene therapy is to deliver the therapeutic protein by implanting genetically modified cells that could overexpress the gene of interest. Microencapsulation devices were designed to protect cells from host rejection and prevent the foreign cells from spreading while allowing protein secretion. Alginate microcapsules form a s

12. Preparation, characterization and evaluation of iron oxides and cobalt supported on activated carbon and polymeric catalysts for the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene / Preparação, caracterização e avaliação de óxidos de ferro e cobalto suportados em carvão ativado polimérico como catalisador na reação de desidrogenação do etilbenzeno
In this work were synthesized catalysts supported on activated carbons, which were obtained by carbonization of a polymer matrix. The precursor of activated carbon was the sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer, which was synthesized by suspension polymerization in the presence of inert diluents to produce a macroporous network structure. The chemical m
