1. Biological control of golden apple snail, Pomacea canaliculata by Chinese soft-shelled turtle, Pelodiscus sinensis in the wild rice, Zizania latifolia field
The wild rice, Zizania latifolia Turcz, used to be one of the important aquatic vegetables cultivated in China. Recently, the golden apple snail - GAS (Pomacea canaliculata (Lamarck)) was found to be a major invasive pest attacking Z. latifolia. To control efficiently GAS, predation by the Chinese soft-shelled turtles (Pelodiscus sinensis) on GAS was evaluat

2. Estrutura populacional e alometria reprodutiva de Podocnemis expansa (Testudines, Podocnemididae) no entorno do Parque Nacional do Araguaia, Tocantins / Population structure and reproductive allometry of Podocnemis expansa (Testudines, Podocnemididae) around the Parque Nacional do Araguaia, Tocantins
Among the reptiles found in the Amazon, the turtles stand out because of its diversity and economic importance. Podocnemis expansa, popularly known as Amazon river turtle, is considered the largest freshwater turtle in South America and has been heavily exploited for centuries by many indigenous and riverine communities. This study aimed to expand the knowle

3. Unifying theory of hypoxia tolerance: molecular/metabolic defense and rescue mechanisms for surviving oxygen lack.
We develop a unifying theory of hypoxia tolerance based on information from two cell level models (brain cortical cells and isolated hepatocytes) from the highly anoxia tolerant aquatic turtle and from other more hypoxia sensitive systems. We propose that the response of hypoxia tolerant systems to oxygen lack occurs in two phases (defense and rescue). The f
