RESUMO

This study aimed to analyse the possibility of theater as pedagocical action, contributing to the improvement of public education, placing emphasis on the Iast four grades of Elementary School. Accentuating that the production of this drama activity needs the collective participation, the creation and ellaboration of ideas and new expressions, a coordinator help and above all, the definition of a goa! to be reached. So that, the drama activity at schools might be a tool to modif the teachers and students learning, so that when they practice it they will have to organize their own way of acting, thinking and feeling. in this way, they will be able to understand more critically their reality and also themselves. We emphasize the relation between theater and education as a process that besides stimulating the understanding of more elaborated knowledge in a certain historical period, allows the individuals to learn the dynamic of how to act in society. So, we tried to study the psycological processes that are most evident in drama and fundamental in education. For this we based our work on the postulate of socio-historical conception, which call that one superior psycological processes, among them, the language, the thoughts and affectivity. However, as the theater, by nature, is a collective activity and believing that the activity is the way by which men change the nature and themselves in a mediated relation, we tried methodological procedures that would allow the dramatic activity production with the intention of understanding its conceptions that grant the practice of this activity at schools. The Drama Workshop, the Cycle of Discussion and Videography were efficient instruments used to reach our objectives, as they allow us and the subjects of this research to carry out our and their analyses and reflections, from the videographic registers of the actions, what made the comprehension of the sense and meaning of theater on the pedagogic practice. The result of this study was that the drama activity can change ideas, behaviour and sensations, making people more conscious. This was kept in discussions when the teachers changed their mind about this artistic activity. Furthermore, they indicated some difficulties that can be found in the school context to develop the drama as a pedagocic instrument.
