RESUMO

This work has as purpose to analyze the social memory of Sinditêxtil - Bahia. We understand memory as an important dimension that comprises the social classes and we sought to investigate the different variations that memory can take within a same group, highlighting the way how the social fitting of memory was carried out from cultural experiences such as work, gender, political ideology and generation. This is not a peaceful process. The social construction of memory comprises a set of fights for the control of the representations on the past, causing the production of remembrances and oblivions. Methodologically, we make use of contributions from the oral history and social sciences, in particular, the technique of narrative interview. We concluded that in the social memory of Sinditêxtil - Bahia, there are two essential narrative forms and an affective element that act as semantic cores, structuring and giving meanings to the other narratives, constituting as its elementary forms, namely, the narrative of takeover of the labor union, the narrative of the heroic fights that occurred in the 1980s for the workers rights and the redemocratization of Brazil. There is also the feeling of nostalgic proud regarding this remembered past. The period before 1982 is sent to the oblivion and is marked with negative signs. The memory of the older directors is covered by a strong partisan fitting, which is not noticeable in the younger directors. For the former, the history of the union institution mixes up with the history of the control of their partisan group over the institution.
