RESUMO

This master thesis presents the results of analyses concerning the narrative strategies and the cinematographic construction of the science-fiction film The Matrix, following two analytic approaches: the Poetics of Film method of film analysis and the concepts of Neoformalist narratology. The resources and strategies employed by this film, along with its proper effects are investigated: namely, the enigmatic narrative, the fictional universe construction and the action-film poetics which, together, construct the characteristic experience of The Matrixs spectator are studied.
