RESUMO

This paper investigates the evolution of the technology used in the edition of TV newcasts aired by Coroados TV, one of the oldest stations in the interior of Brazil and an affiliate of Rede Globo de Televisão. To accomplish this goal, this paper studies the three most important phases of the evolution – the period of 16 mm film, the use of magnetic tape and the digital system – and the consequent changes each phase makes to the televised language. The paper then discusses how the different editions have been made and how the technology affects the construction process of speech. This study considers that one of the main changes caused by the evolution of technology was the speed with which the images were presented, which then caused changes to the language and, therefore, the informational content of the newscasts. The paper analyzes six reports about two different topics, all of them televised by Coroados TV in the three phases mentioned. In the content of the reports, the resources and techniques of visual and textual language in the capture and editing in the film, in the magnetic tape and in the digital systems were verified. The methodology is supported by the bibliographical studies about image, edition, and television, and by the experience of professionals who have worked with the three systems.
