RESUMO

The Work. The environmental identity of the Rural Movement of Landless Workers - MST -: the case of the Dorcelina Folador settlement in the county district of Arapongas - Paraná had as objective the analysis of the MST orientations on behalf of environmental preservation, as well as to detect the build-up of the environmental identity of the MST and to feel in what measure the agro-environmental speech of the Movement rebate on local/nacional level to those settled in the manner of an agro-environmental project within the settlement. The MST positions itself against the model of modern agriculture adopted in Brazil, which was intensified beginning with the Green Revolution, because it considers it harmful to the environment and besides, also allows social exclusion. In thesis, the MST proposes the introduction of a new model of agricultural production based on the sustainable rural development (agro-environmental). And based on that surmise, there was chosen the Dorcelina Folador settlement in the county district of Arapongas, in the north of Paraná so that this research could take place. Interviews were applied to the settled families in two stages: the first stage was accomplished with forty settled families and the second stage only to those who worked with organic products. The analysis of the data and the confrontation with the speech of the MST showed the existence of restrictive factors which influenced the confirmation of the effective application of the speech of the MST to those of that settlement, being: non-existence of an organic production project; difficult of the settled in breaking up with the paradigm of modern agriculture; lack of market for organic products; lack of specific technical-educational formation in agro-environmental production.
