RESUMO

This work analyzes the presence of the Catholic Church in Maringá, in Paraná State, and the first bishops performance, D. Jaime Luiz Rabbit. The study involves the performance of the institution, since the foundation of the city, in 1947, until the decade of 1980, with the implantation of the Archdiocese and the awarding of Maringá to the Ecclesiastical Province. It was looked to analyze offensive of the Catholic Church to consolidate its presence in the society that was being formed and to implant catholic norms and values. This society was characterized by the heterogeneous culture, from the intense colonist migration of several parts of Brazil and abroad. The research emphasizes the Catholic Church offensive to impose is world representation as legitimate one
