2008Professional user interface designers of interactive web-based systems do their work mostly aimed at usability and productivity results. This dissertation reports a reseach on studies of information needs of such professionais. The goal of the research was the identification, analysis and interpretation of the main informations needed by such designers. Given this task, the reasearch presents: (i) concepts and practices related with the professional practice of web-based interface designers, specially the means for information collection employed during their work practice; and (ii) the state of the art in the interface design field and its relationship with the theoretical framework of the discipline and practice of information science. The work was based on interviews and application of forms to a group of seven specialists in the field. They were selected based on representativeness criteria. Qualitative analysis of the data collected is presented. The main result of the research is the proposal of a set of informations needed by such designers during their professional practice.
