RESUMO

The Centro de Saúde Modelo was the first Basic Health Service at the SUS, which is the Brazilian Public Health System, to introduce officially in 1988 a homeopathic attendance in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This study aimed to know the homeopathic service given at this basic health level and its contribution for the development of the of integrality principle. The research is a historical and organizational case study which used the practice of welcoming, bond, and care as guided categories. The data were collected from existent historical documentation, interviews with users and professionals and direct observations. The results showed that Homeopathy draws a differentiated attention, because, treating sick people as singular beings and in its totality, welcomes them and takes the narrative and free expression as fundamental instruments to its practice. However, in this case, was observed that the promotion of the integrality in health attention has been restricted to some of its aspects as the bond and care associated directly to the relation doctor-user. The work process was few evaluated, loosing, during the time, some professionals and space inside of the Basic Health Service, despite the increasing of requirements. The access difficulty was one of the most identified problem of the service. Although homeopathy is a medical activity that, undoubtedly, strengthens the principles of the Brazilian Public Health System, it is necessary that it could be valued from its own characteristics and integrated on the system, recognized and available to people as a therapeutic choice, that could really contribute to the integrality of the health attention
