Analise comparativa de cinco criterios antropometricos para o diagnostico de obesidade em escolares da cidade de Paulinia-São Paulo

RESUMO

In the present study, 2.422 children from 6 to 15 years old, of both sexes, were evaluated; they were alI from ten 1st and 2nd grade public schools in the City of Paulínia, São Paulo, corresponding of aproximately 1/3 of the population of this age from the city and of 70,5% of the total group of effectively matriculated children on the first four series from the first grade. Each of the children were submited to an anthropometric exam with measures of their weight, height, braquial circunference and tricipital skinfold thickness. From the initial group children we separated 119 (4,9%) in which the diagnosis of obesity was made by unless one of the five proposed methods: weight higher than the 97 th percentile; weight-for-height index expressed by porcentage iqual or higher than 120%; weight- forheight index expressed by percentiles greater than the 97th percentile; braquial circunference higher than the 95th percentile and finaly the triceps skin-fold thickness higher than 95th percentile.
