RESUMO

In this work a model is developed to simulate the heat transfer, combustion, admission and exhaust processes in spark-ignition internal combustion engines. The model obtained is able to evaluate the thermodynamic properties - including the exergy - of each portion of the working fluid (air, fuel, combustion products and residues). Usual characteristics obtained from thermodynamics models of simulation are presented. Also included are the determination of the instantaneos irreversibility , the exergetic efficiency for each process and an overall exergetic analysis. First and second law analysis are presented, based on the effects of engine speed, air/fuel ratio, engine load, valve events and combustion parameters are discussed. Particular characteristics of an alcohol engine are compared to the gasoline version of the same engine also based on exergetic analysis, with special attention to the exergy destruction in the combustion process
