RESUMO

The potential for using dyadic Green?s functions and the moment method is explored in this work for the solution of problems of microstrip devices on circular cylindrical substrates. The scattering coefficients of the dyadic Green?s functions of the electric type are determined for a four layered concentric cyllindrical medium from which the central layer (the inner cylinder) is a perfect conductor. In addition, the integral equations that determine the electromagnetic field behavior are obtained. Two particular problems of microstrip devices on circular cyllindrical substrates are analized, the effect of a dieletric overlay on the propagation constant of an infinitely long microstripline and how this dieletric overlay affects the resonance frequency of a ?rectangular? patch antenna, directly fed by a microstripline. The resultant integral solution for the latter problem is presented in detail by using the moment method. The results indicate that the effect of the overlay on microstrip devices may be substancial when the dielectric constant and the thickness of the overlay are increased, such that it should be carefully considered in the design of these devices
