RESUMO

The present research deals with the discussion about poverty and its ways of manifestations and confrontation in the city of Maracanaú,Ce. It has as an objective to analyze the poverty under the aspects of the families registered in the Cadastro Ùnico Program and/or beneficiaries of the Bolsa Familia Program. As for the methodology , it is of a qualitative nature, performed through the bibliographic documental and field research, having as a data collecting tool the semi-structured recorded interview and simple observation. For the analysis of the studied object, the analytical categories used in the investigative process and in the analyzis were poverty, work, and social policies. As the main results the research noticed that the individuals have been organizing their survival through several alternatives, which, for a better service, were divided into three dimensions comprising the informal work, the assistance and the social programs. The performed research showed the vulnerability of the researched families, living in the limit of survival, using several different ways of precarious alternative types of work in order to getthe minimum necessary for their social reproduction and maintenance of their own lives, recurring to the dimension of having a job as a way to feel included individually and socially in the society. Another important datum is their own conception of poverty, always placing it as an individualized matter. Other times, they attribute their condition of the nonsatisfaction of their basic human necessities to a divine will.
