RESUMO

Intending to find the ideal sealer to be used in Endodontics several materials have been tested some providing relative success however no material currently in use has all the necessary properties. Having in mind that the biocompatibility is an indespensable property in a cement of endodontic use, the present research aimed to analyse the tissue answer due to the implant of three materials â ProRootÂ, Super EBA and Portland Cement â in subcutaneous connective tissue or mice backs. The animals were sacrificed in the periods of 7 and 30 days after the implant, composing three groups of 12 animals to each experimental substance. The results were compared among the three cements, having polyethylene tubes filled with gutta-percha as a positive control and empty polyethylene tubes as a negative control. The assessment was made by the microscopic observation of the peritubulars regions and the histological analysis showed that in the period of 7 days there was a chronic inflammatory infiltration, from slight to moderate around the implanted tube, showing macrophages containing overflowed cement particles, with differences of little significance among the analysed groups. After 30 days occurred a diminution of the inflammatory infiltration and the attempt of tissue reorganisation, although it was also observed more intense areas of phagocyte with the ProRoot cement. The results suggest biocompatibility of the three tested cements
