RESUMO

Biventricular pacing has present good results in treatment of congestive cardiac heart failure in patients with dilated miocardyopathy and intraventricular conduction disturbance. One of the goals of research in these days is to identify group of patients that will have more benefit with the treatment. OBJECTIVES: Evaluate hemodynamics, clinical and eletrocardiographics variables as predictors, in short time, in patients with congestive heart failure, previously selected, who most get more benefit with biventricular pacing. METHOD: From December 1999 to March 2002, 47 patients submited to biventricular pacing were evaluated.. The etiology was ischemic in 19(40.4%), idiophatic in 17(36.2%) and Chagas disease in 11(23.4%). Based on clinical examination , six minute walking test, echocardiogram, patients were evaluated one day before and 10 days after the procedure. RESULTS: Only one patient didn`t have clinical improvement with the treatment , the group class IV got more improvement in distance walked in six minute walk test than class III. CONCLUSION: The functional class IV was considered predictors for best benefit with biventricular pacing in short time. Etiology of myocardiopathy, degree of mitral insufficience, shortenth of QRS and type of bundle branch block had no influence in this group of patients
