RESUMO

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the clinical, salivary and microbiological parameters, used in the attempt of detecting patients of high risk to caries increment in permanent dentition. Thus, 356 students of both sexes, aging between 6 to 8 years old at lhe beginning of lhe research, were divided into two groups: Control group and Treated group. Initially a clinical examination of caries on deciduous and permanent teet whas done, and also a salivary analysis concerning the salivary flow, buffer capacity and the counting up of S. mutans and Lactobacillus. The Treated group was submitted to topic applications of fluoride and sealant, with semestral review. The salivary and clinical examinations of caries on permanent molar teeth were repeated after two years. The results showed that among several predictos employed to identify the patients. of high risk to develop cariogenic activity, only dmfs showed significants statistical difference CP >0,0082% for the Control group and P >0,38% for theTreated group) within caries increment on permanent dentition being the sole index of some reliability to predict the risk of caries development
