RESUMO

Highly energetic composites containing the cyclic nitramines HMX and RDX dispersed in a polyurethane matrix were prepared and characterized by DMA, TMA, DSC and SEM. It was evaluated the effects of type, particle size and content of the fillers, as well as the curing agent and batch size on the thermomechanical properties and decomposition process of the composites. DMA analyses showed to be very sensitive to evaluate small variations in the formulation, so it was used to determine the glass transition temperature of the compositions. The thermal expansion coefficient was obtained by TMA and the thermal decomposition by DSC. The microscopic analysis allowed to correlate results obtained through the several techniques with the morphology of the composites. The best processing conditions were obtained with bimodal mistures containing a wider particle size distribution in each range. Small variations in the particle size distribution of the fillers were reflected in the final properties of the composites. The thermomechanical properties presented good repetivity for all the composites and showed to be affected by the characteristics of the fillers. It was observed that the binder has a significant influence in the decomposition process of the nitramines. The obtained results showed that the thermal analysis and the scanning eletronic microscopic techniques are appropriate the study of energetic compositions due to the small amount of the samples required, high speed of the measuring associated to the sensitivity of the equipments...
