Caracterização litoestrutural e parametrização geomecânica das superfícies de ruptura em taludes na Mina de N4E Carajás / PA

RESUMO

The Carajás Mineral Province has been discovered in the 60s and mining activities began in the 80s, which has been increasing significantly up to the present day. It is the most important unit of VALE Company, related to the exploitation of iron ore. The N4E mine has been chosen because it is the main mine of the Carajás Mineral Complex and it presents the higher number of slope failure events along its activities. The mine is composed by rocks with variations in the degree of weathering and strength, defining heterogeneous and anisotropic rock masses with different responses to shear strength. Slope failure events have shown a strong structural conditioning, mainly at the metabasic rocks of footwall, characterizing the slope failures as plane and circularplane. These facts demonstrated the need for a better knowledge on the structural framework and the failure conditions existents on the mine. Thus, with this objective, it has been carried out a detailed structural geological mapping investigation at 1:2000 scale and laboratory tests regarding strenght parameters of the lithotipes examined. Upon events of slope failures, three areas on the slope footwall have been selected, in order to be performed back analysis, adjustments and estimations of both the strenght parameters and applied methods. These areas were determined as Central Pit Slope, Southeast Slope and South Slope. The Mohr Coulomb and Barton &Bandis criterion were used as back analysis, which helped to the adjustment of the parameters obtained by laboratory tests. These methods have demonstrated good applicability of the case studies. The methods used to calculate the safety factor methods were Spencer and GLE/ Morgenstern Price which have been chosen due to their best results. The final results showed a good adjustment of the strength parameterers adjusted to the failures conditions observed in the footwall contact.
