RESUMO

In order to develop Carioca bean lines resistant to Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, Uromyces appendiculatus and Phaeoisariopsis griseola and showing desirable agronomic characteristics, it was done phenotypic and molecular characterization of 30 Carioca bean lines and also of Rudá-R which comes from a program of pyramiding of gene resistant to bean pathogen, at BIOAGRO/UFV. At the dry season 2004/05, segregate population were advanced and evaluated in field at generations F2 and F3 by using randomized block design, with three replications. At F3 were collect data of grain production per plant in order to estimate the average of genetic variance of each population and then determine their genetic potential according to Jinks and Pooni prediction methodology. Cultivar Talismã was used as control. Considering the results of characterization and evaluation, five populations were selected because of good performance and potential to use indirect selection from molecular markers. Around 150 F4 plants of each population were genetically identified by using RAPD and SCAR markers, previously identified by BIOAGRO program. Some F4 plants from different segregate populations showed molecular marks connected to different alleles of that pathogens resistance. In some cases introgression of two or three resistance gene could be molecularly observed, and only artificial inoculation could difficult it. Aiming to valid the prediction methodology, two populations more promising and two less promising were chosen, based in the potential to provide lines superior to Talismã pattern. From each population was extracted 53 families F3:5 and then they were evaluated in field in a square lattice triple design. According to the results, Jinks and Pooni methodology was efficient in identifying segregate populations that are more promising and provided families of good performance, in order to extract superior lines.
