RESUMO

Solid lipid nanoparticles made of pure lipids (SLN) or a mixture of solid and liquid lipids (NLC) have been proposed as a category of carriers for cosmetic ingredients of current and growing interest due to a number of advantages compared to conventional formulations. Natural waxes are considered lipid matrices of great potential for the production of topical administration of SLN because of low toxicity and biocompatibility, as well as improve the appearance of the skin, increase elasticity and also has a function of physical barrier. This study aimed to develop a type of NLC nanocarrier based on the use of carnauba wax, loading benzophenone-3 (BZ-3) as a lipophilic active. Initially was performed a physico-chemical characterization of the main materials (carnauba wax and BZ-3) by using differential scanning calorimetry, the infra-red spectrometry, X-ray Difratometry. Following the characterization, binary mixtures of carnauba wax and isodecyl oleate were investigated and was showed the effect of the oil in the wax properties (i.e., reduction of the melting point). NLC formed by carnauba wax and of isodecyl oleate were first developed without active, to investigate (using a statistical design of experiments) the effect of variables of formulation (24 factorial, 16 experiments) and process (24 factorial, 16 experiments) on the characteristics of products such as particle size and polydispersity index. It was found that the type of emulsifier, the proportion wax: oil, the pressure of homogenization and the number of cycles were the factors that significantly influence the characteristics of the NLC. Finally, it was investigated the effect of the addition of BZ- 3 in NLC formulated and prepared in conditions ensuring the best features of systems such as range size (200-300 nm) and polydispersity index (<0.2). The parameter of the study was the level of BZ- 3 in nanoparticles consisting of carnauba wax-mixture of isodecyl oleate (1:1) which corresponded to 0, 4.8, 9.1, 23.1 and 33.3-μgBZ 3/mg lipid phase. The following parameters were determined: the encapsulation efficiency, physical stability of nano-suspensions, pH, viscosity, zeta potential, ability to release and penetration in vitro. According to the results obtained from lipid matrix composed of carnauba wax and of isodecyl oleate in the ratio of 1:1 (wt) has a maximum capacity of incorporation of BZ-3 of about 4-5% BZ-3 (mass BZ-3 / mass nanoparticles). Finally, the set of results shows that NLC of carnauba wax and of isodecyl oleate are promising systems for the presence of UV filters (occlusive effect, low penetration of the skin, ability to encapsulate a solar filter and BZ-3)
