RESUMO

The objectives of the present study were to compare the anaerobic threshold speed (SAT) obtained ttom fixed lactate blood concentration (4 e 3.5 mM), the lactate minimum speed (Sucrnin) and the critical swimming speed (CSS) determined by different distances and to analyze the correlation of the protocols mentioned previously with the performance in 400 meters (s) in adolescent swimmers. The sample was constituted by fifteen swimmers (10 boys =14.8 :I: 0.6 years old and 5 girls = 14.6 :I: 0.8 years old) of national leveI. The SAT was determined using the protocol proposed by Mader et aI. (1978), using a fixed lactate blood concentration of 4 mM (SAT 4 mM) and 3.5 mM (SAT 3.5 mM). For the determination of Sucrnin the procedures adopted were proposed by RIBEIRO et aI. (2003). The Sucrnin was defined as the lowest blood lactate value measured during the graded phase of the testo The CSS 1 (50/100/200 m), CSS2 (100/200/400 m), CSS3 (50/100/200/400 m) and CSS4 (200/400 m) were determined using the slope of the linear regression between the swimming distances and the time taken to swim them (W AKA YOSHI et al., 1992). During the training sessions, the participants swam one event per day in random order. AlI the tests were accomplished in a 25 m swimming pool, where the subjects participated in 7 or 8 test session with intervals of 24 to 48 hours. For treatment of data the analysis of variance was used (ANOV A) for repeated measures folIowed by the post hoc Scheffé test and Pearson correlation coefficients. Significance was set at P
