RESUMO

This work has been carried out in order to contribute to the study of the inclusion compounds of b-cyclodextrin. The formation and characterization of these inclusion compounds and some questions concerning its chemical and structural features are pointed out. Several methods for the synthesis of inclusion compounds with b-cyclodextrin are shown, for Ferrocene, Acetyl-ferrocene, Diphenylacetylene and 2-fluorobiphenyl. The resulting products are compared to physical mixtures with equivalent composition, in order to settle the modifications achieved with inclusion, thus establishing a methodology for the characterization of these compounds. The role of Infrared Spectroscopy and Powder X-ray Diffractometry in characterizing inclusion compounds is discussed, as their usefulness in identifying Host/Guest interactions. The thermal behavior of reagents, inclusion compounds and mixtures is appreciated from crossing Thermogravimetric and Element Analysis results. Those systems that do not comprise metal were also studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Crossing these techniques provided a picture of the releasing mechanism of the guest molecules. That brings on the possibility to verify the modifications on the thermal properties of the included molecule, thus establishing that inclusion occurs.
