RESUMO

The effects of gestation and lactation on the dynamics of thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) were evaluated in Crioula Lanada ewes, in the mountainous area of Santa Catarina/Brazil. Thus, this study was accomplished with two experiments: were evaluated 12 pregnant ewes in Experiment I, and 12 lactating ewes in Experiment II. Control group for these two experiments was formed with 12 non-pregnant and non-lactating ewes. Blood samples, in Experiment I, were took on the first, second and third period of gestation and parturition. In Experiment II, blood samples were took in parturition, and after 30, 60 and 90 lactation days. T3 and T4 concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay (RIA). RIA data were submitted to the variance analysis and averages of treatment by Students Test at the level of significance p 0,05. Pregnant ewes showed serum concentrations of T3 and T4 lower than in non-pregnant ewes. There was no significant difference on T3 and T4 concentrations in parturition between pregnant and non-pregnant ewes. Lactating ewes also showed serum concentrations of T3 and T4 lower than in non-lactating ewes. The results of this study show that gestation and the lactation interfere on decrease serum concentrations of T3 and T4 hormones in Crioula Lanada ewes.
