RESUMO
Although antonymy plays a relevant role in language functioning, since it is one of the most activated mnemonic processes in the experience categorization, it still needs more attention from those who devote themselves to language study. The lack of a comprehensive and substantial discussion about antonymy has made it difficult to achieve a more objective and accurate description about this topic. The problems derived from a largely inaccurate description of the linguistic phenomena of a given language will obviously be reflected in its grammars. Regarding the theme in focus, the problems range from inaccuracy and poor formulation of the antonymy concept to misunderstandings concerning the identification of several antonymous pairs. They are found in teaching materials, grammars, and even in specialized dictionaries of linguistic terms of antonyms. Aiming at solving such problems about this issue, some linguists have proposed categorizations of meaning oppositions. Within the theoretical precepts of formal semantics, which focuses on antonymy dealt with in this study as an incompatibility relation of meaning established in the paradigmatic level, Lyons proposal ( 1997 ) is the most widely used. Based on his theoretical propositions, the analysis of the data collected is carried out. The elements which constitute such corpus are lyrics from Elba RamalhoÂs musical repertoire
