RESUMO

Considering two common sense evidence â the growing search for physical activities and the number of cases of postural shunting line, the effects of body building had been observed in individuals of the female gender with ages between 15 and 29 with confirmed diagnosis of structural scoliosis varying from 10 to 40 degree angle de Cobb. Began from the anamnese, the detailed postural evaluation and the computerized through the Software Da Vinci version 3.0 (Micromed biotechnology Ltda), using a back-front position with delimited points: the right and left Tales angle measured in centimeters; shoulder level measured in degrees. The participants carried through three weekly sessions of body building with corporal global strength work and stretching before and after the workouts, for one hour during four months. Exercises were included to stretch the side of the concave of the primary curve and all the workouts with exercise machines that over load the spinal column were excluded. The second computerized postural analyses was achieved after four months of body building, obtaining results that showed improvement compared to the first one, from an individual point of view. From the 19 participants 18 showed improvement in the shoulder area and the shoulder leveling, achieved zero degree and 13 (68,5%) equaled the distance between the left and right olecrano comparing the distance diferences before and after body building treinment. Amongst the 19 participants, 13 (68, 5%) described some kind of pain in the first evaluation, having 2 reveling pain in the spine, 9 (47, 4%) in the lumbar, 4 (21%) with other kinds of pain associated or not with pains in the spinal column and 2 (10, 6%) in the cervical column. After four months of observed exercises, an expressive result was obtained. From 19 participants, 6 (31, 6%) showed less pains, having 7 (36, 9%) not having anymore pains. The present study concluded that training programs and the selection of exercise machines should be adequate to the biological necessities and the individual morphofunctional restrictions for better long term results, therefore preventing future injuries. Body building exercises has a positive influence on the postural shunting lines (structural scoliosis); the participants a significant improvement on posture in comparison to the shoulder levels and a decrease in the diference found in the right Talesâ angle in comparison to the left Talesâ angle before and after treinment.
