RESUMO
The photoacoustic (PA) technique is applied in a variety of experimental arrangements for different organic and inorganic materials. The PA monitoring of crosslinking reactions in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is made by measurements of the thermal diffusivity of this material. The PA technique has proven to be sufficiently sensitive to detect the early stages of LDPE crosslinking. Also, the kinetics of iodine doping of polyethylene films is investigated. The changes in the measured physical properties, such as nonradiative relaxation time and thermal diffusivity, showed strong evidence that an order-disorder transition is taking place as a function of the doping time. The "in vivo" genotypical response of corn (Zea Mays L.) to toxic aluminium using an open photoacoustic cell (OPC), is presented. An earlier discrimination among specimens is obtained with this technique than has been possible so far with previous techniques. AIso, the possibility of the OPC technique to provide the complete optical and thermal characterization of leaves is demonstrated. Finally, a qualitative study of the PA transients of photoacoustic induction from dark-adapted leaves is presented. The PA study of iron doped lithium aluminate, made by looking at the behavior of the nonradiative relaxation time, is shown for powdered samples. An acoustic detection of the electrochemical Peltier effect has been made. Finally, an experimental study on the possible influence of thermal and electronic diffusion lengths on PA measurements in solar cells is shown
