RESUMO
Distillation columns are one of the most important equipments of the chemical process industry. Product changing processes. Lost and expensive time, producing waste and consuming energy and raw materials. Therefore, the development of methods, which optimize this unproductive time, was the target of many publications in the last years. A still frequent problem is the velocity and the robustness of the optimization algorithms. The target of the work presented here is the development of a robust and fast method to solve a time optimal control problem of a distillation column in a product changing process. The orthogonal collocation method is applied two times at the dynamic column model. First, in discrete form about the column space to approximate the tray-to-tray model at the collocation points, reducing the order of the process model. Second, in continuous form about the time to discretize the dynamic model. Afterwards a SQP algorithm, suitable for high dimensioned optimization problems with few degrees of freedom and a sparse matrix, is chosen. As the SQP algorithm is a fast but not robust method, an IDP approach is developed to initialize the SQP algorithm. The double application of orthogonal collocation, which means, the possibility of reduction of the dimension of the optimization problem, leads to a much better approach, the auto-initialized SQP approach...
