RESUMO

Our research is a qualitative-interpretative case study which investigating an English teachers beliefs about on-going evaluation in Human Development Cycle (CDH), in a municipal school in Goiânia. The aim of the study is to identify the teachers beliefs, observing the influence of the summative evaluation on her pedagogical practice. The investigation instruments to collect data were divided into two groups: the primary data used narrative, semi - structured interview and classroom observation with notes; and the secondary data were reflexive sections to discuss theory about evaluation and an openedquestion questionnaire to get students view on the evaluation type used by the teacher. Thus, through data analysis and interpretation, we classified the teachers beliefs into: teaching, learning, teaching education and evaluation. Moreover, we described the teachers evaluation practice that is based in some classified and summative criteria, probably rooted in her experience as a student and a teacher. We observed that on-going evaluation is considered a progressive function of the formative evaluation; indeed, it is not a type itself, but a function of the formative one. On the other hand, teachers speech or discourse is full of formative concepts, needing to improve her theoretical knowledge through some texts, discussions and participate in different events from the area, and provoking her reflexion-in-action.
