RESUMO
Dying is part of the natural biological process of all living beings, therefore death is inevitable. However, the way you deal with dying can make a difference in the living process, soothing the general suffering which is caused by death. For this matter it is necessary that people demythologize this issue. In present times death and dying have become a taboo which, in general, is not discussed, attempted by all means to be defeated as if it represented shame and failure, which consequently draws a great psychological suffering to people. This work has the objective to reflect about the need of and understanding of death in western culture, from the analysis of a medical case experienced in an ICU Intensive Care Unit in a hospital City. The aspects linked to the living history and the local culture have been taken into consideration, aiming to contribute for a better understanding of death and dying as an inevitable and natural live process of humankind. Key words: Death, Education, Culture, Psycology.
