RESUMO

Model transmission network problems are as old as the networks themselves. However, the complexity of the equipment and the networks has been increasing substantially. This thesis shows a method able to simulate electromagnetic interference on telecommunications networks. Several methods have been published by others including different solutions, e.g., frequency and time-domain calculation, specific models including cable imperfections and soil finite conductivity. Here, the method can characterize aerial or buried networks with non-parallel cables. The networks can be placed on an electromagnetic interference environment (plane-wave) or, instead of that, the noise could be included by located sources in the network. The simulation is performed on the frequency domain using the quasi- TEM approximation. An electromagnetic topological approximation is also used. The per-unit-length parameters calculation of shielded cables are needed and, for this reason, explained by a traditional and a new method. A parameters measurement method is also shown. Several computer simulations are compared with known results in order to validate the method including analytic calculation, a thesis result and experimental data. Some experimental results were obtained at the International Center for Lightning Research and Testing at Cachoeira Paulista (Brazil). At the Center, an experimental telecommunications network provides the environment to measure lightning induction. The results obtained by numeric simulation are very similar to those from literature or measurements
