RESUMO

Chagasâ Disease or American trypanosomiasis is an endemic disease and exclusive ne-glectfulness of the American continent, mainly Central America and South America. Estimates allege that between 16 and 18 million people are infected by Trypanosoma cruzi. Benznidazol is currently the chemotherapeutically active ingredient against T. cruzi. Until 2003, benznidazol tablets were produced by the Swiss pharmaceutical group RocheÂ, under the name of RochaganÂ. Since this year its technology has been trans-ferred to the Brazilian Government, where the LaboratÃrio FarmacÃutico do Estado de Pernambuco [Pharmaceutical Laboratory of the State of Pernambuco] (LAFEPEÂ) has become its world producer. The present work has an objective to present the pharma-cotechnical development of the pharmaceutical form 2% benznidazol-based suspension, based on a qualitative and quantitative excipient planning for the execution of bench-marking tests aiming at the acquisition of a quality and low cost pharmaceutical form, which may facilitate the administration of doses to pediatric and geriatric patients. For this reason the development and validation of the analytical methodology for raw mate-rial and finished product in tablets and suspension, through Spectrophotometer, as well as through High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), complying with the parameters established in Resolution â RE no. 899 of the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). The developed benznidazol suspension presented good quality and the extemporaneous powder suspension is found under stability study. This study was performed in association with the LaboratÃrio de Tecnologia dos Medicamentos do Departamento de CiÃncias FarmacÃuticas da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) [Drug Technology Laboratory of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of the Fed-eral University of Pernambuco] and the LaboratÃrio FarmacÃutico do Estado de Pernambuco (LAFEPEÂ)
