RESUMO

In general, the tailings are disposed in the form of pulp, mainly because the condition of the residue is the natural byproduct of the minerals concentrations activities, always associated with large water demands. The final disposal of wastes in pulp occurs by hydraulic filling techniques in large reservoirs of check dams. In the case of more granular tailings, the depositional model can be interpreted in the light of classical theories of consolidation under infinitesimal deformation, based on results from conventional laboratory tests and / or field. In the case of fine tailings, however, predict the behavior of waste and the formulation of a consistent depositional model may not be framed in the usual systematic, demanding theories of consolidation at large deformations and deployment of specific equipment for evaluation of the constitutive relations void ratio x effective stress and void ratio x permeabilities of the materials deposited. This work was aimed at the optimization of equipment to determine the constitutive relationships of fine tailings by tests (HCT Hidraulic Consolidation Test) with the use of pump flow. To the existing equipment in the laboratory of the UFOP geotechnical instrumentation devices have been implemented for digital data acquisition and assembly of a new control panel, placing all control devices added to the panel in order to obtain an objective definition of the circuits flow, including the calibration of measuring instruments, and the development of a new program for data acquisition. Tests with a bauxite tailings were used for validation of the new equipment developed and designated as HCT-M UFOP.
