RESUMO

With the objective of introducing ourselves to the analytical methods based on the thermal effects which accompany chemical reactions and particularly on the Thermometric Titration technique, the following topics were developed: 1 - We constructed a thermometric titrator which consisted of the following parts: a constant delivery syringe, a Dewar flask, a titration flask with magnetic stirrer, a thermistor, a Wheatstone bridge and a potentiometric recorder. 2 - We verified the linearity of the Wheatstone bridge with thermistor - recorder system. We verified that the temperature variation is directly proportional to the deflection of the recorder pen. We calibrated the syringe delivery at various possible working deliveries. Then by titration of sodium hydroxide with an hidrochoric acid solution we calibrated the syringe delivery-recorder paper speed system. 3 - We stablished the most favorable work conditions for the syringe delivery, the paper speed, the recorder sensibility, the titrant concentration for the titration of azide with hydrochloric acid solution. We studied the accuracy and precision of the method for two different azide concentrations. 4 - Finally we applied the developed method to the analysis of insoluble azides. We stablished an experimental procedure for application of the method to the determination of silver azide, mercury (I) azide, lead azide and copper (II)azide.
