RESUMO

A method for quantifying perhalogenated compounds with the general formula CxBryClz ( where x = 1 or 2 and y + z = 4 or 6) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed. The interest in such a determination by HPLC is related to the use of ambient conditions, avoiding possible compound decomposition from the higher temperatures used in gas chromatography. The determinations were carried out on a reversed phase (C-18) column with a methanol-water mobile phase. Detection was at 220 nm, using a variable wavelength UV/Vis detector. The analytical conditions for separation of CCl4, CBrCl3, CBr2Cl2, CBr4, C2Cl4, C2Br4, C2Br6, C2Br2Cl4 (1,2-dibromotetracloroetano) e C2Cl6 were optimized after initial recuperation of the column. Using these conditions, analytical curves were obtained using both the external standard and the internal standard ( CHCl3 ) methods. The detection limits for CBr4, CCl4, C2Br4, C2Cl4, CBrCl3, C2Cl6 e C2Br2Cl4 were, respectively, 2, 4, 1, 0,9, 1, 5 e 2 mg.L. Some compounds showed deviation from linearity at the higher concentrations, requiring care in establishing the proper concentration range. Using manual calculation of areas (triangulation) interpolation of areas give a reproducibility of less than 5%.
