RESUMO

This study aimed to investigate the extent to which cultural policy for music performed by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Bahia -, between the years 1995 and 2006, was actually dedicated to the protection and promotion of diversity, or, if in the contrary, intentionally or not, just helped to stimulate the advancement of Axe Music on the space reserved for music in the entertainment market of Bahia. There so, projects, actions and programs targeted to the musical, promoted by the Department were collected and analyzed. Through the analysis of activities reports of the government and the multi-annual plans of that period, it was possible to verify that the activities of the Culture and Tourism Department in the area of music, in some way, tried to protect and promote the musical diversity in Bahia, as it could find that a variety of musical genres enjoyed such support. It was also evident that some of them had the desire to promote emerging artists that, in the majority of cases, do not belong to the mainstream genres. However, this concern was not always accompanied by guidelines that took into account important points to the issue of protection and promotion of musical diversity. Many were raised superficially or havent even been touched, not receiving proper attention from those responsible for the development of these activities.
