RESUMO
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of collagen removaI on the microleakage of two single-bottle adhesive systems. Forty human third molars were selected and each of them received two preparations on its roots. The roots were randomly assigned to be restored using Prime &Bond 2.1(PB-Dentsply) or Single Bond (SB-3M). One of the cavities in each root was treated with H IND. 3 PO IND. 4 and the other received an additional treatment with 10% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCI) for 60 s before adhesive application for removaI of collagen layer. Four groups were created: G1(PBSH)-PB without NaOCI; G2(PBCH)-PB with NaOCI; G3(SBSH)-SB without NaOCI and G4(SBCH)-SB with NaOCI. All the cavities were restored with Z 100 restorative resin (3M). The specimens were submitted to 5,000 thermal cycles (5-55 °C) and stored in 37°C water for 1 year. After this time the specimens were coated with a varnish except for 1 mm of tooth structure surrounding the restoration and immersed in 2% blue methylene for 4 hours. After rinsing, the restorations were sectioned and two independent observers, using a light microscopy at x45 magnification, scored (0 - 4) the microleakage at the interface between restorative material and tooth. The scores were submitted to Fisher s Exact Test and the results showed that collagen removal reduced significantly the microleakage for Prime &Bond 2.1 and had not effect on microleakage for Single Bond
