RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to evaluate how ethyl alcohol can affect the drying time of inta-oral radiographic and a possible alteration in the emulsion made by this product, which is able to harm the storage of the radiographic. Group E, Kodak Ektaspeed Plus and Agfa Gevaert Dentus M2 Comfort perapical radiographic films were used in final washing time of 10 and 2,5 minutes. Each group was divided into five groups, having been different the alcohol treatment: AG: a group with no alcohol washing; AG/AL: a group that after final washing time by water, had a 10 seconds alcohol washing; AUAG: a group that had a 10 seconds alcohol washing before having been washed by water, AUAG/AL: a groupthat had a two alcohol10 seconds washing, being one before the final wash and another after; AL: a group that didn t have a water final washing but had a final alcohol washing. To verify the alcohol effect, each group of radiographic had a timed drying time. The films were evaluated densitometrically, subjectivally and microscopically, in three different times: 1,6 and 12 months after the experiment. After the analyses, it was possible to conclude that the group of radiographic which had an alcohol drying in the last phase, dried in shorter time. Also, it was verified that the radiographic alcohol washed, in any phase of its processing, had their properties altered, what could influence the storage time. This alterations were more evident in densitometric analyze than subjective and microscopic
