RESUMO

A new generalized correlation is proposed to calculate thermodynamic properties of chemicals in vapor – liquid equilibrium. The correlation is suitable for applications to one and multicomponent systems, involving polar and non-polar compounds. The new method also predicts both the low and high pressure range of the equilibrium diagram, including the critical region. The proposed correlation has the same structure as the Soave modification of Redlich-kwong equation, i.e, P = RT - a . v-b v(v+b) where the parameters a and b are generalized and temperature dependent. The new equation is particularly useful in computer calculations, since it only demands critical temperature and pressure, acentric factor and polar Stiel parameter as input data for one component systems. For mixture calculations, two binary interactions constants are additionally required. It has been shown that good results are obtained in correlating and predicting thermodynamic properties such as vapor pressure, liquid and vapor densities, K values, and enthalpies of pure components and mixtures. Concerning K value calculations, the correlation performance is equivalent to that of the well known UNIQUAC method. The correlation has been specially applied to systems of interest in the Brazilian alcoholchemical industries.
