RESUMO

The objective of this project was to investigate if the stimuli Equivalence model can describe part of the obesity problem related to the external control of stimuli. Six subjects, three with IMC<24.9Kg/m2 and three with IMC >24.9 were exposed twice to a same choice procedure in accordance with the model that utilized a set of non-food stimuli in the first situation and food stimuli in the second. The procedure included a special conditional training alternating continuous reinforcement and intermittent reinforcements for the relationships AB and BC and test for the symmetry relationships (BA and CB), Transitivity (AC) and symmetrical Transitivity (CA). In the training and test with non-food stimuli the set of stimuli A were A1-house, A2 ball, A3- church, A4 clock; B: B1- TAC, B2 PIQ, B3 REZ, B4 LYT and C: C1 attractive, C2 old, C3 red and C4 shining. In the training and test with food stimuli the stimuli were indicated by each subject in the following manner: A1 and A2 were preferred food while A3 and A4 were food of little or no intake. The B set was formed by B1 WEX, B2- ZIM, B3 KAB, B4-TUJ. C was formed by C1- delicious, C2- horrible, C3- full of flavor and C4 despicable. The results suggest an emergence of equivalence in the majority of the occasions tested and with practically all the subjects, independently of the IMC (except for subject 2, which did not show a formation of equivalence class). It was noted that the first training required, for almost all subjects, a larger number of tries to reach the criterion established for a phase change. The conclusion conflicts with the existing literature which points to a interference of previous history as stimuli utilized in the establishment of arbitrary relationships pointing (in the majority of cases) to an adaptation to new conditions of the reinforcement for the establishment of arbitrary relationships
