RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the structure and productivity of recently colonized mangrove forests with different ages, in Saco dos Limões, Florianópolis, SC. To do that we chose 4 areas of different ages with 2 plots in which (1M, 1E, 2M, 2E, 3M, 3E, 4M, 4E). Sediment was sampled and analyzed for grain size, organic matter and carbonate levels. The studied plots presented variable grain-size composition, but silt and clay were higher at the older plots than at the recent ones. In each plot we identified the trees and we measured its basal diameter and height. The studied plots presented density values that varied from 6.400 to 52.222 (ind/ha), while the values of mean diameter varied from 3,37 to 9 (m2) and the basal area varied from 25 to 71 (m2/ha). We tested correlations among biological and non-biological factor. We also tested correlations among different biological factor. Only the better correlations were presented. We also tested cluster and canonical correspondence analysis. Older forests presented well-developed structure, with higher basal diameter and height and smaller density than the recent forest. Laguncularia racemosa dominates the recent forests and Avicennia schaueriana dominates the older forests. Litter production was higher in january and lower in june. Avicennia schaueriana was the most important contribution to litter fall in most of the forests. Litter fall was higher at the older forests than at the recent forests
