RESUMO

The purpose of this work was to study the angular values obtained through two different methods for registering condylar paths: that of Paterson s Register of Wear and Nobilo s Intra-Oral Register with the inclination of the posterior surface of the articular eminence through linear tomography. Twelve completely edentulous patients were evaluated, with ages ranging from 39 to 73, that did not present any signs or clinical symptoms of temporal-mandibular disorders. The patients were submitted to registers of maxillo-mandibular relationships through the methods proposed in Paterson s Register of Wear and Nobilo s Intra-Oral Register. The first method consisted of making individualized occlusal curvatures through abrasive wastage incorporated in compound rollers in denture bases. The second method consisted of creating an intra-oral device made up of two platforms, with one having a screw with a needle point attached to it and the other having a metallic disc attached. Moreover, the platforms had vestibular jongs which made it possible to fix mandibular positions that could prove interesting, trom a prosthetic s point of view. After the registers had been made, models (cast moulds) were mounted on a semi-ajustable articulator (Dentatus ARL-P) and the anterior-posterior condylar guides were registered. After that, the patients were submitted to exams of the posterior surface of the articular eminence using linear tomography, and in order to carry out these exams the Denar Quit Sectograph equipment was used. Angular measures were obtained through the use of a Bimier plastic protractor. The results obtained were analyzed with regards to variations and the averages were submitted to the t-test at a levei of 5% of significance. The averages of the condylar inclinations for the right side as measured through linear tomography (45.5°) were higher than those obtained through the methods presented by Nobilo (31.58°) and by Paterson (23.25°), and the latter two presented statistical variations between each other. ...
