RESUMO

The objectives of the project were: 1) Identify the photosyntetic pathway used by Gramineae species from different vegetal formations of São Paulo State and the Federal District; 2) Observe the light intensity variation effect on the growth and biomass allocation of one C3 add C4 species. The photosynthetic pathway was identified using foliar anatomy the CO2 compensation point. The light intensity variation effect was studied in the C4 sun species Cenchrus echinatus and C3 shade species Pseudechinolaena polysthachia. Dispersion unities of these species were sown in there different light intensity conditions: sun, shade and intense shade. Their growth was accompanied during one year. A laboratory experiment was set up to allow the observation of the dispersion unities germination. The photosynthetic pathway anatomical identification revealead 55 species using the C4 pathway (of which 48 were sun species and 7 shade species) and 23 species using the C3 pathway (3 sun species and 20 shade species). This result indicates that the C4 species are more abundant in open habitats than C3 species. The results of the photosynthetic pathway identification using the CO2 compensation point was definitive only for Brachiaria sp, a C4 species (O - 10 ppm concentration of compensation)?
