Estudo da calcificação dentaria em crianças da região metropolitana do Recife

RESUMO

With the intention to study the dental calcification of children of the Recife metropolitan region, it was used a sample of panoramic x-rays of 1352 patients of masculine gender and 1346 of the feminine gender, distributed between the ages of 4 and 15 years old and divided for trimester. In each radiograph, the stage of calcification from the incisors to the second molar ones were evaluated, by means the diagram of eight stages of calcification praised by Demirjian et al. (1973). The data were presented in absolute and percentile values and descriptive statistical techniques were applied (minimum and maximum values, media and standard deviation) and statistical tests (test t-Student). By the analysis of the results it was verified that, in general way, the dental calcification occurred first in the feminine gender, indicating e precocity of the dental development in the girls. A variation in the precocity of the development of teeth existed when the arcs were evaluated, being that for some teeth, as the lateral and canine incisor, the dental calcification occurred first in the lower jaw; in the second pre-molar the calcification occurred first in the upper jaw and, for the other teeth, there was a variation in precocity for both arcs. The results of this work allowed to trace a panorama of the development of the permanent dentition for the population of the region of Recife
